GCHQ Royal Puzzle Question 1

GCHQ Royal Puzzle Question 1

Main thread here.

Un-mix and then mix. What do you get?

  1. CLAY KESTREL
  2. CRYSTAL EEL
  3. CUBA SEACOAST
  4. CUBIC SEE
  5. JAM TOO, CUTIE
  6. LEWD GENOME
  7. P. E. PREP
  8. REOCCURS, WEATHERISES
  9. D. V. OAK
  10. JOULE MINCE

Just looking at these they look like anagrams and starting with the two shortest ones we get Vodka and Pepper. The clue at the start suggests that we should then mix then, which with Vodka in the list means that a cocktail would be likely. Going for the Royal connection a Bloody Mary proved to work and I got most of the anagrams working backwards from knowing the cocktail..

  1. Celery Stalk
  2. Celery Salt
  3. Tobasco Sauce
  4. Ice Cubes
  5. Tomato Juice
  6. Lemon Wedge
  7. Pepper
  8. Worcestershire Sauce
  9. Vodka
  10. Lemon Juice

The Bloody Mary was named after Mary 1st of England (or at least wikipedia thinks that is the most likely naming reason) so we have our first answer.
